T'was the week of Christmas...

It was a fun week!   The kids were really good for a week full of excitement and anticipation!

During the week we participated in 2nd grade holiday stations.  Students were split into five different groups with the other 2nd graders.  Throughout the week they visited each 2nd grade teachers' room for a holiday activity (holiday trivia, holiday bingo, ornament making, holiday memory, and a holiday guessing game).

We spent time reviewing capitalization and punctuation.  Students played a couple holiday math games that required them to double numbers.  Those are coming home for you to play as well!  Students made holiday cards for people.

Ms. Sievers was here on Tuesday to do a lesson about thanks.  She taught them the 4 Steps to saying thank you.

We had a great party today!  Thank you to everyone for your contributions and/or attendance!  Be sure to check out the photo tab for a few pictures!

Safe travels to those of you leaving town.  Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!  See everyone next year!

Week of December 14th...

Make sure to check out the reading tab.  We had such a fun week in reading!  Our discussions were so valuable!  It was an awesome week!

Our second Homework Hoopla was on Tuesday.  Students who earned the celebration choose from outdoor games or crafts.

Mrs. Knowles was here on Thursday to talk with us about being kind.  She did a lesson with Paper Person.  Students learned our words hurt and those "wrinkles" stay with us.

Next week will be filled with review, holiday stations, and activities.

1:10 out on Wednesday.  Don't forget to wear your PJ's!

Week of December 7th...

Thursday afternoon we enjoyed the fabulous holiday concert.  The kids had a wonderful time and were well behaved.  The 2nd grade singers did a fantastic job.  It sounds as if the Thursday evening concert was just as wonderful!

Wednesday is a 1:10 out.

Please remember to send a wrapped, regular size candy bar for our gift exchange.

Congratulations to Presley & Alexes for being selected to the 2nd Grade Leadership Team for next week!

Just a reminder about leadership lunches:
Visitors are welcome to come and eat lunch with students anytime.  They love having a guest!  When visitors eat with students in the lunchroom, it is fine to bring in a special lunch - Subway, McDonalds, KFC,  etc.   But, when students are a part of the Leadership Team and are sitting at the special Leadership table, we ask that visitors either eat school lunch with their special leader, or just sit with them and enjoy one another.  Being a leader is an honor and a reason to celebrate, which is why we let our Leadership students eat early, go to recess early, and sit at a table together.  There are many students chosen as leaders who are unable to have a guest come to lunch, or are unable to have a special meal brought in.  Yet they enjoy the special privileges we allow, which is our preference.   The second grade teachers have discussed this with Mr. Miller at length.  We don't want anyone to feel that if they are chosen to be a leader, someone has to bring in a special meal for them.  This information is in the letter that is sent home when your child is chosen as a leader.  Thank you for understanding.

Week of December 1st....

It was a busy, short week for us.

Students wrote letters to Santa.  They will be published in the Washington Evening Journal.  I believe they told us December 22nd.  If you would like to read your child's letter before then, please let me know.  I'd be happy to send it to you.

We enjoyed Mrs. Knowles guidance lesson on Thursday.  Mrs. Hall was here Tuesday and Wednesday for lessons with us.

Congratulations to Nelly & Luna for being selected to the Leadership Team for next week.

A Short Week...

A fun week for us!!  Monday was popcorn day where we incorporated popcorn into reading, math, social studies, and snack!  I posted a picture of our popcorn graph and some poems on the photo tab.  Tuesday we learned about the life of a pilgrim girl and on Wednesday we learned about a pilgrim boy.  Let's just say the kids decided they did NOT want to trade places with them!  Wednesday students did a writing activity comparing and contrasting themselves with the pilgrim boy/girl.  We reviewed alphabetical order and logic puzzles as well this week.  Students are bringing home some Native American craft projects today.  Please ask them to tell you about them!

Friday afternoon we did a weaving project to combine Native American art and Thanksgiving.

We read with our kindergarten buddies on Wednesday.

Report cards are in folders.

Have a very happy Thanksgiving!  I'm blessed to work with your children each day, thank you for sharing them with me!  Safe travels to those of you leaving town.  See everyone on Tuesday, December 1st!

Week of November 16th...

Sadly we have had two students move in the last three weeks.  We were sad to see Patrick and Lauren move, but wish them well in their new school.  We will have a new student join us after Thanksgiving break.  We are happy to welcome Haiden to our class!  That brings our class total to 22 students.

Please make sure your child is prepared for winter weather!  A note came home tonight with a reminder of our winter weather expectations.

2:20 dismissal on Wednesday.  School will resume on Tuesday, December 1st.

We are getting low on snack.  If you are able to send a box of crackers it would be appreciated.

A big thank you to our room parent, Jodi Williams, for organizing our Halloween party!  We enjoyed snacking on popcorn, fruit, and some treat bags.  Students enjoyed playing the mummy game!  Pictures to be posted soon!  Another big thanks to the parents who helped provide treats and supplies for the fun afternoon!

Book It calendars can be returned at any time.  November calendars are coming home today!

We are having a 2nd grade assembly about the Leadership Team today.  The 2nd grade Leadership Team will begin next week.  We are looking for students who are being RESPONSIBLE, RESPECTFUL, and SAFE in all areas of the school.  This means on the playground, pick up lane, hallway, classroom, and lunchroom.

Can't believe it's November already!!!

Week of October 12th...

What a fun day today!  Joe Winters, meteorologist from KCRG TV9, came to talk to the 2nd graders about weather.  We enjoyed his visit!  We practiced our Polka Dots Pants dance a few times so we were ready to bust a move before the Walk-a-thon.  Then we enjoyed several laps around the school.  Fun day!!

A huge thank you to the Stewart Boosters for our popcorn and juice snack Friday.  2nd grade won the grade level Box Tops contest so we were treated to a yummy snack!  If you see Scott Lujan from State Farm Insurance, be sure to thank him for the awesome water bottles!

There were several very important papers sent home this week.  Please make sure to check your child's folder each night.

Week of October 5th...

What a busy week!  Fire Prevention Week and Homecoming week all in the same five days is enough to keep us on our toes!  We had many schedule changes this week and the kids handle all the extra excitement well!

Tuesday we started our day with a fire drill and five fire safety stations.  Please be sure to check out the photo tab for pictures from our day!

Friday we enjoyed a pep assembly with the band and cheerleaders.  Then two cross country runners and a football player came to read to us.  It was fun to see so many students participate in the dress up days!

Mrs. Hall visited us twice this week to do some lessons on creativity and thinking outside the box.  We also enjoyed our first guidance time of the year with Mrs. Knowles and Ms. Sievers.

Wednesday is a 1:10 dismissal.

So far it is looking like another wonderful weather week coming up!

Week of September 21st...

I can not believe we are almost to October!  I told the kids today time flies when you are having fun.  :)  Some didn't agree.  We are very busy during the day!  If your child comes home crabby and exhausted, it is with good reason!  Or maybe that is just me!?  We move, move, move, work, work, work through our day.  We don't really have much down time.  This is a great group of kids and I'm super impressed with them and how our year has begun.  I had a science training last Thursday and attending a field trip with my boys this Thursday and both subs said the class was excellent.  So both Friday's began with EVERYONE on good choices!  So happy to hear they were responsible and respectful when I was gone!

1:10 dismissal on Wednesday!

We had an awesome drum assembly on Thursday!  I'm sure you probably heard all about it.  A huge thank you to the Music Boosters and Stewart Boosters for their support!  The kids told me all about it this morning!

Week of September 14th...

Things are running smoothly in the classroom.  The kids are very chatty and we had several discussions about that this week.  I told them next week we would start working hard eliminating all the extra talking!  :)

Picture retake day will be October 22nd.

Week of September 7th...

Another great week in 2nd grade.  There were several times this week I was so impressed with the kids and their knowledge!  I really enjoy working with them!

I started beginning of the year assessments this week.  Kids enjoy working on their daily stations while I test.  Students also took two math assessments this week.  Results of all testing will be shared at parent teacher conferences  in October.

Our first 1:10 dismissal is on Wednesday.  IF your child's after school plan is different, please let me know.

Week of August 31st...

It was our first full week of 2nd grade!  Overall the kids did amazing!!  We are fully engaged in our schedule now and working to show respect and responsibility in all areas of our day.

We will start beginning of the year assessments next week.  Results of those assessments will be shared at parent teacher conferences.

Thursday is picture day.  Every student will get their picture taken, as they use these photos for the class composite picture.  Please remember, if you want to order pictures, you must send the picture order form back before or on Thursday.

Looking forward to another wonderful week!

The First Week in 2nd Grade...

Our first four days are in the books!  Overall things went very smoothly here in 2nd grade.  We have worked hard on learning more about Being Respectful, Being Responsible, and Being Safe.  We spent quite a bit of time reviewing procedures this week.  Students have done a nice job following them.

Take home folders - We've talked about being responsible by returning our take home folders each day.  I will send important notes and information inside folders.  Beginning in September, there will be a calendar included.  A note about that will come home next week.

Baggies -  Friday baggies come home today.  Students will bring their baggies home each Friday with their mail.  Notes or flyers that are not time sensitive will also be sent home in baggies.  My hope is you have the weekend to look over your child's papers.

School picture forms are coming home in baggies tonight.  Please keep them someplace safe!  You may return to school at any time!  Pictures are September 10th.

Next week our routine will be in full force.  It also sounds like next week will be warm.  Please feel free to send a water bottle with your child.

Please check out all the other tabs to learn more about each area.

As always, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me!

Day 2 ....

Day 2 was just as good as day 1!  We are working to get our routine established.  Kids are doing a nice job.  We reviewed Being Respectful, Being Responsible, and Being Safe today.  We'll review for several days.  :)

Be sure to check out the photo section for a sneak peak from today!

A Fabulous First Day...

It was a great first day!!  Today was mostly filled with introductions and lessons on Being Respectful, Being Responsible, and Being Safe.  We met lots of new friends and had some fun getting to know each other.

Remember, we don't eat lunch until 12:30.  We will have a small snack at 11:05 after recess.  I reminded kids to be sure and eat breakfast!

I think we are ready for another great day tomorrow!

Ready For Tuesday...

Thank you for attending Meet the Teacher Night!  It was great to see so many students and family attend.  Hopefully you've had time to read my introduction letter and the student handbook.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

I will meet students on the playground Tuesday morning.  Just a reminder, the bell rings at 8:05am to come inside.  Students need to be here by 8:15am, when the tardy bell rings.  Looking forward to seeing everyone then!

Here is a look at our schedule:
